Send Driver Jobs as SMS from ‘Coach Manager’

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

We have recently implemented an upgrade to our system so that we integrate with the popular ‘Coach Manager’ software from Distinctive Systems. Coach Manager is a very popular booking system used by operators throughout the UK and globally.

Usually the jobs are emailed to the drivers, with the job details within a PDF attachment. Our system can now detect when a PDF is attached, and pulls out the relevant job details, and sends them as an SMS to the driver. If no attachment was included, then our Email to SMS service works as normal, completely transparently to the customer.

This custom development was done free of charge for the customer, and we are now looking to offer it to other coach companies to expand our reach.

New ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ Page

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

We have spent quite some time recently making improvements to our Frequently Ask Question page. What we did was to go back though our support Inbox, and pulled out all the questions that are genuinely asked most often.

The new FAQ will hopefully allow people to find out much more easily the answers to the questions that they have, without having to wade through reams of other stuff that just gets in the way.

The most common question related to how long it takes for a text message to be delivered. Because of the investment that we’ve made in our system, and by selecting the highest quality suppliers to partner with, a typical SMS delivery time from sending to receiving is about 5 seconds! Any longer than this, and it usually means that the mobile phone is either switched off or out of coverage.

If there are any questions that you think are missing from the FAQ, then just let us know.

API Reference Implementations

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Today we kicked off a new project to create some reference implementations for our API. We recognise that generally people want to get up and texting as quickly as possible, so we’re creating some worked examples for integrating applications and websites into our systems.

We’ll be creating C#, VB, PHP and Java reference cases, that should shorten the development time in a green-field site dramatically.

The software will all be open-source, so customers are free to slice and dice the code as they see fit. Of course, we’ll be on hand to answer any questions that may arise during the integration process.

Product name change….’Receive Texts’ becomes ‘Direct Response’

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

We’ve decided to rename our ‘Receive Texts’ product to be ‘Direct Response’. This is to reduce the possibility of confusion between our product offering. Direct Response is perfect for marketing campaigns or promotional events, as it allows anybody to send texts to a fixed number, and have those texts forwarded to the customers as either an email or by our API.

It has always been the philosophy at toText.net to offer full two-way communications as standard across all our products. What we found is that some customers mistakenly assumed that they need the ‘Receive Texts’ product as well as either ‘Email to Text’ or ‘Web to Text’.

This should be a benefit to all our customers, and we’re looking forward to taking all our product lines forward into the challenging times ahead.
